Penelope Kokkinides:  A Leader in Healthcare Reform

Penelope Kokkinides is the Chief Administrative Officer at InnovaCare Health Solutions, LLC. She has held that position since August 2016. Kokkinides’ expertise is in healthcare, managed care, and the government programs Medicare and Medicaid. She has a very strong knowledge of management and operations of healthcare processes and strives to improve the structure of both of these. Kokkinides has held many different positions in the healthcare industry including Aveta, Inc, where she served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer there from 2006 to 2012. She also held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Touchstone Health HMO as well. Kokkinides has over 15 years experience in the healthcare business and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and Classical Languages from Binghamton University. She is very well educated and also has a Master in Public Health from Columbia University and Masters of Science in Social Work from New York University.

 

Being a essential part of healthcare reform in the United States, Kokkinides was one of eight women that was invited to the White House by President Donald Trump. With a strong passion for the healthcare industry, Kokkinides, wanted to bring awareness and discuss healthcare services across Puerto Rico. She believes that there are many benefits associated with having a more stable healthcare service for the United States Territory. Kokkinides wanted to make sure to bring to light that healthcare funding in Puerto Rico is dropping at a daily rate and current cuts are estimated to be at $1 billion. According to Kokkinides, Medicare Advantage payment plans are a necessary change that needs to be made to help address these cuts.

 

Kokkinides believes that with proper funding these cuts can be addressed and decreased. In her speech to President Trump, she mentioned that not addressing this healthcare issues in Puerto Rico could lead residents of the territory to move into the states. The cost of Medicare in the United States could be triple the price than in Puerto Rico, which would solve the problem at all.

 

Just days after the meeting, it was released that adjustments were indeed made to the Medicare Advantage plan for residents of Puerto Rico that were very favorable.
